MY COACHING FOR YOUMC4Y P. Hoenig

IT-supported organisational consulting

More effective processes, an IT landscape that fits your strategy, and change that people support – four consulting modules, on their own or in combination.

By Peter Hoenig · Last updated:

I support you with a holistic approach: every capability of your company is linked to processes, organisation, information and tools. This leads to decisions that are transparent – and to solutions that work in day-to-day practice.

Where to begin?

That is the question that comes up most often – and it can usually be answered from whatever brought you here in the first place:

  • “Nobody here knows any more which software is for what.” Then we start with architecture management and map out which capability of your company is supported by which system.
  • “Every incident is a special case and nobody is responsible.” Then we start with IT service management – with a service catalogue and clear procedures for incidents and changes.
  • “The procedures grew historically and nobody knows all of them.” Then process management is the way in: making visible what actually happens, before talking about how it should be.
  • “We introduced something and nobody uses it.” Then it is about change management – that is, the question of why people did not come along.

In practice hardly any undertaking begins with all four modules at once. Usually it becomes clear by itself after the first step what comes next.

How working together unfolds

  1. Initial consultation – about 30 minutes, by phone or video, free of charge. We clarify what the matter is and whether I am the right person for it.
  2. Taking stock – I look at what is there: processes, systems, responsibilities. In doing so I talk with the people who work with it daily, not only with management.
  3. Target picture – together we develop a picture of how it should look, and an order in which to get there.
  4. Accompanying implementation – your team implements, I accompany. I deliberately take on no implementation work; that would create dependency where self-sufficiency is the aim.

Who this is for

For small and medium-sized companies whose IT has grown over the years and now raises more questions than it answers. You need no IT department of your own for this – precisely where one or two people “do the IT on the side”, the gain is often greatest, because their knowledge is otherwise recorded nowhere.

Frequently asked questions

What is IT-supported organisational consulting?

IT-supported organisational consulting designs a company's structures, processes and IT systems together instead of looking at them separately. The aim is an organisation whose technology supports its people and its strategy.

Can I book the modules individually?

Yes. The modules can be booked individually or in combination – depending on your organisation's maturity and needs.

From what company size is this worthwhile?

There is no fixed threshold. What matters is not the number of employees but whether the knowledge about procedures and systems still sits in a few heads. As soon as the answer to “who knows how that works?” is a single name, it is worthwhile – whether the company has fifteen people or two hundred.

How long does such a project take?

That depends on the scope. Taking stock of the IT landscape is feasible within a few days; a process project takes weeks to months depending on the number of procedures. I work in defined steps so that you can decide after each one whether and how to continue.

Do I need an IT department for this?

No. Many of my topics concern precisely those companies without their own IT department that work with external providers. There it is often unclear what service has actually been agreed and who does what in the event of a fault – exactly that can be put in order.

Do we have to buy new software for this?

As a rule, no. Usually the problem is not missing tools but that the existing ones do not fit together or nobody knows what they are for. For the work itself I provide free tools that run in the browser without installation.

Do you also carry out the implementation?

No, deliberately not. I do not write software and do not operate systems. My work ends where your team or your service provider begins – that keeps the consulting independent and prevents me from writing my own follow-up contracts.

Let's talk about your plans

In a free, no-obligation initial consultation we clarify where you stand and which path suits you.

  1. You send me a short note on what it is about.
  2. We talk for about 30 minutes by phone or video – free of charge.
  3. You receive a proposal for the modules that suit you.
